Welcome
Hi, my name is Sally Campbell and I’m an artist, illustrator and maker based in Perth, Western Australia.
I work mostly in watercolour, acrylics, collage and digital mediums. I am fascinated by people, their lives, things that grow, the ridiculous and the heartwarming.
My story
Growing up in Adelaide, my parents were both artists and my Mum inspired my love of watercolour. Our house, at different points, housed a photographic dark room (in our laundry), a framing workshop and a studio where artists met each week to create, learn and connect. My grandmother had a small studio with a kiln and my own nostalgia is closely linked to all these experiences. I associate making art with connection, exploration, play, learning and beauty.
It’s been a winding road back to art. After working in finance, I made the leap to studying Visual Arts at UniSA with a focus on ceramics and painting. Starting a family and a move to Indonesia and Perth interrupted this part of the journey, but in 2015 when my daughter (my third baby) was born I set up an Instagram account with the intention that I would create every day. The name of my website “saldaily” and my Instagram handle both reflect these beginnings. I still try to make something every day.
I work from my home studio in Subiaco while juggling all the stuff and drinking all the coffee. I hope you enjoy my work and perhaps I’ll speak to you soon.
